yoga retreat / ganslberg

The art of being oneself.

The home of the late artist Fritz Koenig, the Ganslberg, is surrounded by forest, enclosed and separated from the outside world, is to be reborn and transformed after his passing.

The artist himself said the dimension of the Ganslberg would be the dimension to create and to be. It is a retreat, an oasis, a place to find oneself and be oneself. The place invites one to linger and come to rest. Koenig combined physical activity on the ground, riding on his stud farm, with the idea of creative work in his own home.

This core idea was spun further for my bachelor thesis through a conversion and a change of use. The retreat is based, as it was in the beginning, on a physical and a mental, some would say spiritual, level. A yoga retreat is to be created in the buildings on the hill, the Ross Hall, the Africa Hall and the residential house with stables. About 20 people can stay there for one to two weeks to participate in seminars. The halls will be used for physical activity, while, as per Koenig's concept, the residential house will serve as a combination of spiritual further education and communal living.

The arrival at the estate takes place at the former workshop hall, which is located at the foot of the hill and will provide space for weekly courses. Thus, a spatial demarcation between walk-in customers and participants who enjoy a longer stay is created by horizontal distance and height difference.
