Architectural layouts in game design need to be used to its full potential, especially when using virtual reality.

The story is set in a post-apocalyptic, barren world. The light of an abandoned lighthouse on a small island has a special ability: its light restores the past.

The player must reach the top of the lighthouse to switch on the light in there.

At the beginning of the game, a flash light is provided whose light has the same ability of restoring the past in its light cone. However, only one way up is possible. The different storeys of the lighthouse can be accessed by solving the respective puzzle of the current floor. As the player reaches the top level of the lighthouse, the dreary and grey atmosphere of the game changes as soon as the light is switched on to a sunny and beautiful scenery.

Since the game relies heavily on atmosphere, virtual reality was chosen to emphasise on the haunting mood of the lonely wasteland. As the given environment cube of the VR devices is two by two metres small spatial layouts of a lighthouse are highly suitable for virtual reality. Even more so, the narrowness of this special architecture can be optimally experienced and used to its full potential.

This interdisciplinary university project was devised, design and implemented by a group of five, consisting of students of games engineering, a student of industrial design and me.
