Interactive models offer new ways for designing, presenting and engaging audiences.
A plain white model of the surroundings is enhanced by superimposing the building facades. The projection of the facade is connected to a software which enables drawing directly on the facade of the model.
In order to be able to create an approach for different models, projection was chosen for displaying the facade. The beamer can either stand openly or be installed in the opposite building. At the desired location, the facades of the existing neighbouring buildings are displayed, as well as the facade of the new building. The latter can be replaced by variants or iterations (e.g. for presentation purposes) or edited (e.g. during project work). Editing works on a tablet: the sketched ideas are projected onto the model in real time. Tokens are used that are placed on the model to save the drawn image or quickly switch between the facade variants.
The prototype of this university project was created within a group of three from Arduinos and RFID chips encased by 3D printed tokens, a drawing interface designed and implemented in Processing, and an urban model of an intersection in Munich.
